    Malcolm X on Zionism

"The Zionist armies that now occupy Palestine claim their ancient Jewish prophets predicted that in the "last days of this world" their own God would raise them up a "messiah" who would lead them to their promised land, and they would set up their own "divine" government in this newly-gained land, this "divine" government would enable them to "rule all other nations with a rod of iron."

If the Israeli Zionists believe their present occupation of Arab Palestine is the fulfillment of predictions made by their Jewish prophets, then they also religiously believe that Israel must fulfill its "divine" mission to rule all other nations with a rod of irons, which only means a different form of iron-like rule, more firmly entrenched even, than that of the former European Colonial Powers.

These Israeli Zionists religiously believe their Jewish God has chosen them to replace the outdated European colonialism with a new form of colonialism, so well disguised that it will enable them to deceive the African masses into submitting willingly to their "divine" authority and guidance, without the African masses being aware that they are still colonized" Malcolm X

The term "Zionism" was first introduced in 1893 by Nathan Birmbaum, but Theodor Herzl, an Austrian Jew born to a prosperous, emancipated Budapest family, is recognized as the founder of the Zionist idealogy when he published his book in 1896, "The Jewish State", where he declared that the cure for anti-semitism was the establishment of a Jewish state. As he saw it, the best place to establish this state was in Palestine.

While Herzl claimed that the establishment of a "Jewish" state would cure anti-Semitism, he also promoted anti-Semitism to further his cause.
    Herzl stated in his diary:

“It is essential that the sufferings of Jews.. . become worse. . . this will assist in realization of our plans. . .I have an excellent idea. . . I shall induce anti-Semites to liquidate Jewish wealth. . . The anti-Semites will assist us thereby in that they will strengthen the persecution and oppression of Jews. The anti-Semites shall be our best friends”. (From his Diary, Part I, pp. 16)

Benny Morris (the Israeli Historian), described how Herzl foresaw how anti-Semitism could be "HARNESSED" for the realization of Zionism. He stated:

"Herzl regarded Zionism's triumph as inevitable, not only because life in Europe was ever more untenable for Jews, but also because it was in Europe's interests to rid the Jews and relieved of anti-Semitism: The European political establishment would eventually be persuaded to promote Zionism. Herzl recognized that anti-Semitism would be HARNESSED to his own--Zionist-purposes." (Righteous Victims, p. 21)

What a fantastic few sentences. Doesn't look like it has been taken out of context at all.

Anyone who believes this land belongs exclusively to either side is insane. Jews, Arabs, Phoenicians, Palestinians, Philistines, Romans, Assyrians, Persians...this bit of land has been home to dozens of tribes, empires, creeds and gangs for millennia. Many of the placenames in the region are conflagrations of Arabic and Hebrew showing the shared heritage, and yet they've been fighting about who "owns" it for 5,000 years or something.

Today's conflict is essentially a continuation of this, albeit in a modern context. In this modern context we like to think of ourselves as "civilised" and therefore feel the need to declare who is morally right and wrong. That leads us inevitably to condemn the government of a democratic nation-state that persecutes an occupied people. This outrages our modern sensibilities. But that is no more than an accident of timing. This "civilised" worldview did not exist 3,000 years ago when the Jews were exiled by the Muslims, or 1,000 years ago when the Crusaders slaughtered Muslims for kicks. Applying our modern view to those times should lead us to declare them just as morally reprehensible. Sadly, engaging in that kind of moral relativism is just a total dead end and basically idiotic.

So the only view of the Middle East is the long view, both backwards and forwards. Looking back, they all own it. Looking forward, they'll all share it. The terrible shame is how many people will suffer in the myriad short-terms between now and the time they realise this and make peace.

Anti-semitism hardly needed too much help in that the Russian pogroms were in full spate at the time.

It must have seemed truly off the wall back in those times when he said it, but today Israel seems to 'rule' the US on all foreign policy issues relating to that part of the world. US pres candidates must first be veted by AIPAC, they must prostrate themselves there before they can go on and take up the role in the White House, the list of presidential appointees always includes some active zionists (schmuck mentions Biden but H Clinton in one interview promised she would be willing to 'obliterate' Iran on Israel's behalf) such as R Emmanuel, the US had no comment when the atrocities in Gaza were taking place (using US weapons) and Israel is practicing 17thC colonialism in Palestinian territory with all the brute force that must accomplish the destruction of a people and this passes with no comment....

Israel paves way for settlement - The Scotsman

ISRAEL has taken control of a large chunk of land near a prominent West Bank settlement, paving the way for the possible construction of 2,500 settlement homes.
Successive Israeli governments have broken promises to halt settlement expansion. Haaretz newspaper said the land was located near the settlement of Efrat.

Sharon to Peres: "We Control America" - Congressional Pandering to Israel proves him Right (by Mohamed Khodr) - Media Monitors Network

"don't worry about American pressure, we the Jewish people control America."
I would say Malcolm X's words had some of the properties of foresight and insight both.

If you own a piece of land, it belongs to you - that means it shouldn't be possible for someone else to 'confiscate' it and take it from you. That's just basic property rights and they are violated in Palestine (and this violation is codified in the laws of their state) and the people they give it to have sometimes just arrived in the country from Eurasia, none of their forefathers having anything to do with Israel... In fact the separation between the new arrivals and Israel is sometimes so great that some new arrivals have even turned out to be neo-nazis who hate Jews! (Having lived so long in Eurasia they no longer see themselves as even Jewish as such)...
