Recently I came across a Wiki article about
Paddy J. McLogan (Pádraig Mac Lógáin) where it claims he was involved in republicanism from 1913 until 1962.
- Joined IRB and Irish Volunteers 1913
- Command of South Armagh IRA during War of Independence
- Anti-Treaty IRA
- Abstentionist Republican MP for South Armagh, Northern Ireland Parliament 1933-1938
- Setup short lived Cumann Poblachta na hÉireann party in 1936
- President of Sinn Feín 1953, 1954-1962 (resigned)
That's 49 years. Other names that come to mind are O'Donovan Rossa (1856 until his death, more or less....Seán Russell, Thomas Clarke (joined IRB 1875-1916) and Ruairí Ó Brádaigh (joined
SF 1950, IRA 1951. That's 58 years in the wilderness.
Any who have been around longer? I'm referring to those who never came into the fold so to speak, so Dev and Seán MacBride and Gerry Adams are out.
