MLK Assassination 40 years ago today

Martin Luther King was one of the true heroes of the 20th Century. He was shot dead 40 years ago today. The bbc have some good coverage on their homepage.

There is a plaque where he was shot that quotes from the Old Testament story of Joseph

"They said to one another, 'Behold, here cometh the dreamer Let us slay him, And we shall see what will become of his dreams" --Genesis 37: 19-20

If you've got access to TV channel UKTV-History, there's a programme starting at 17:00hrs about his assassination.

Great quote for a great man
Few are willing to brave the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence.

James Earl Ray pulled the trigger but it's unlikley he acted alone.

MLK helped get a people up off their knees but he was no saint himself in some respects.

People like Malcolm X and Stockley Charmicheal (?) were more radical than him as were the Black Panthers soon afterwards.

But he had the broadest base of appeal within his own community.

He was a man of great energy and persuasion and knew how to hold an audience.

For all his faults a Great Man and his memory deserves to be honoured.

plagiarised doctrate , plagiarised speeches, serial adulterer, used and beat up prostitutes, sham of a reverend.

rather than revered as a "hero" , he would have been found out as a fraud had he lived, just like JFK

    - for the record Dan was accused and charged with Rape but was found not guilty.

He shot a man to death who left a wife and family...

He had reportedly had an eye for the ladies.
