What if English had kept Dublin, not Belfast?

How do you think the history of Irish republic would be different if the English had kept Dublin and Pale (defined as, say, Meath, Louth, Kildare, Wicklow), not Northern Ireland. Provisional capital was moved to Galway (say). Would it have made any difference to the fortunes of Irish language. What do you think?

It always does, but our dear third-city residents are in denial about the unquestionable pre-eminence of the Fair City that sits astride the Anna Livia.

Ok guys, this thread is not about BÁC vs Corcaigh. What about Irish language - this is I mostly interested in - would that hypothetical scenarios have made any difference?

Would the history of Lithunania would be different if the Russians had made Riga the capital before they left?

You're just jealous of the beauty, vibrancy and dynamism of Dublin.

Well those of us living outside the M50 get royally screwed when it comes to the provision of services (broadband, hospitals, roads etc). Since the IRA stopped blowing everything up the Stormont assembly has already surpassed the republic in much rural infrastructure. Being goverened from Belfast couldn't be much worse than the current situation where soon you will have to drive to Dublin on ************************e roads to access vital cancer treatment because some Dublin civil servant thought the chance of surival of Dublin patients would be boosted by 20% if the regional centers were closed and the money invested in "centers of excellence" which just happen to be almost exclusively in Dublin.

Even Ian Paisley has a reputation for fighting for services for his Catholic constituants. The bastards we elect would sell us into slavery if they could once they pass the red cow roundabout.
