    It's wonderful stuff at any level. Arguments about withdrawing money from banks to buy arms.......someone not agreeing unless they got one !! And being given a revolver..." which was never seen again .."

    And the amateurism of it all. Raiding for bicycles !!

    Happened on both sides, read Deasy's account of the Tan War; the British forces went out in force in west Cork on an extended razzia to steal as many bicycles as they could get their hands on.

    Read about the burning of the courthouse in Drumcollogher, they sprayed petrol through a hose and managed to kill 3 of themselves. Kind of story you never hear of;

    The release of this archive is spectacular in so many ways that you'd hardly know where to start. The fact that it's all being put online is the icing on the cake.

    It certainly has that kid-in-a-candy-store feel to it, in my gut.

    former wesleyan, you are a good person.

    Can you do everyone a favour and open a thread as soon as you see that the Military Service Pensions Records are available? And the 1926 Census too. I'll do it myself if I spot them before you do. Cheers.
