I didn't say we should pretend ther wasn't a religious motivation. I sayd we should try not to associate the yearly commemoration with religion and the Catholic Church.
You are rewriting history. Pearse choose that period specifically because of the nature of Easter and its symbolism. How can you try not to associate it? Most of the people were of the Catholic Church says well , your are remembering their lives. Having a mass (mulit domination if you want) looks far more pleasant and less tacky than the over the top crap of gun fighters screaming through the sky, or the army getting its wares out for show.

If you have an issue with religion and / or religious orders, then keep it to yourself.

As are you. Pearse didn't choose Easter for 'symbolism' - he wasn't that subtle. He chose it because he was barking mad and saw himself as an Irish Christ. Our very own Irish Mad Mahdi.

Ironic point for this thread considering so few of the Leaders of the Easter Rising were Irish ......

Why is Bastille day celebrated in France?
Why is independence day celebrated in the U.S.A?

What ? We are not discussing why the rising is commemorated.

Yes, he was barking mad. Lunatic even, hence, partially why he does not get remembered compared to the other leaders (though they get forgotten about)

Sorry, what I should say was, in Pearse's mind, it was all symbolism, and yes, he did see himself as Christ
