just out of curiosity The Caped Cod, how illegal? what are the penalties, and how are they measured, generally?

The problem isn't how to hygienise war or how to make war civilian friendly, that's a secondary problem that is posited when the hardmen are dead set for war and it will happen no matter what. The problem is the seriously neglected or unmined potential of diplomacy and reasonable behaviour. Nearly all wars are started by powerful nations with huge militaries, the stronger the military of a nation the greater the probability of them being a warmonger and the further they are willing to travel to bring war to others. Nations that try really hard to collect as much military firepower as possible are nations that are going to WANT to use them even if there are other options available, and in today's world these countries have military-industrial complexes that profit whenever they are used and lobby politicians to be more warlike so it becomes a nested industry in itself.

The philosophy espoused by these nations becomes that war is ok - and we see that in this discussion. 'war is normal', but in any war, even the best conducted of them - always a great many people die, so those who believe war is ok believe killing huge numbers of people is ok too without even real cause. I say cause because you can measure it in miles, country A attacks country B 5000 miles away, there is no real cause or justification - this is the philosophy of the normalisation of war in it's essence.... When those powerful nations travel to distant lands to spread death and destruction this is not the same as a dispute between neighbours, the Yugoslav conflict will always be more understandable than the Iraq war from the outset, those were neighbours and war just happened - they didn't lie and obfuscate in order to go out of their way to bring death to others far away.

No doubt the schoolchildren burned to death would understand, 'Hey everyone, it's ok that we were killed because our side was to blame in situating a weapons factory near to a school, besides the one who dropped the bomb on us has a moniker called Tough But Fair'.

How can you even speak of something like this and feel sorry over anyone who died in the holocaust?
