Which building on the Bing map ? The white one across cork hill from city hall is very old.

We have done more damage to O Connell street that was done in the 1916 rising .

Why the hell did we allow all those fast food outlets in , also those horrid amusement halls.

I wish we could return our city back to the way they look in the photos.

Along the side of Palace Street... with what looks like an observatory on top but isn't, it is a hideous building.

Here is a story from when it first got planning permission:

Excellent photos, wonder what the place will look like 50 years from now? Cheers tenderlions.

Absolutely magnificent Tenderloins. Thank you so much. It was a much nicer city and country back in the 60s for sure. Happy memories

We all love animals. Why do we call some 'pets' and others 'dinner'?

One thing that's quite noticeable is that the American-style plastic signage was becoming very popular. Some of the bar signs and advertisment hoardings look similar to what you might see in contemporary New York or Chicago. Many traditional showboards and signs were destroyed in the '60s to be replaced by plastic signage especially in rural towns. I noticed in the '90s that the wooden showboards started to make a big comeback and people started ripping down the plastic signs..full circle and all that

    Beautiful photos! Thanks tenderloins.
Sure as hell the past is a different country. Some lad with his girlfriend on the back of the bike at the lights on O'Connell St. Trench coated fellahs with no helmets on the scooters!

Indeed, and it would appear this occurrence was immediately met by the quick wit of the Dubliners, if you look closely at the 2nd last photo. In those days it would have meant trendy gardening tools of course, and not a house of sin. Then again it may have just been a windy day

But as many of you on P.ie will be aware, we have to "listen to business". A city has to have viable commercial outlets---fast food and amusement arcades must indeed be money-spinners (although what they are doing on our main thoroughfare is probably the question)

Many of us bemoaned the sale of Bewley's but obviously never bought a cup of coffee there. We must remember that nostalgia will not pay the rent

I think the photos are beautiful--more bicycles than Beiijing! Ok, so it did not look like a major capital city, but the thing that made Dublin unique, and which made it totally unselfconsciously itself, its very Dub-ness, if you will, is caught in these lovely pics.
