    A new argument against porn

I'm no prude, and I've no time for either the Christian or the Feminist arguments against porn.
After all, I don't believe in the repressive sexuality espoused in 4,000 year old Jewish books, and I consider porno to make sex objects out of men just as much as women.
But I'm reconsidering my liberal position on porn after coming across something this week. Porno directly leads to massive rates of suicide, drug abuse, criminality and murder - among porn stars themselves.
That's not something that the cool kids in their 'Porn Star in Training' t-shirts are aware of, I bet.
But the bottom line is very much, as Chris Rock famously said: "At all costs, keep your daughter off the pole."

I know you're no fan of feminism, but you should read some of Catharine MacKinnon's stuff on porn.

In particular, only words, it's a quite thought-provoking read.

I really don't want to discuss either feminism on porn or Christianity on porn on this thread.
But to address your point briefly, I think MacKinnon is one of the most appalling misandrists ever to walk the earth.
Now, to return to the topic...

By porn? I'm not sure they are, except insofar as some former pornstars end up resorting to prostitution off-camera when they are deemed too old to prostitute themselves on it.

Is not being a porn star just a job. Like serving burgers at McDonalds or cleaning lavatories. They are unpleasant but they are jobs that pay money. Doing porn is more demeaning but also pays more money. Some woman choose to sacrifice their dignity for extra money. This is the way of capitalism and the world. What young women age 18 plus decide to do is their business.

Well, that's my point. Porn is not just any old job - it's clearly a job which vastly increases your chances of dying by the age of 35 by your own hands, via suicide, drug addiction or dubious car crash, or at the hands of someone else by way of murder.
It's absolutely staggering to consider how many porn stars end up destroyed by their experience in the industry.
Burgerflipping may or may not be dignified, but it doesn't cause your death.

Christian rules on society are generally practical. If you see logical reason against prostitution, Christians saw it years ago and put it down as a religious law. Thats what religion is for.

Religion causes suicides itself! Except, we are not allowed to talk about that sort of thing shhh. On the other hand it may have prevented some, due to people finding god or whatever tripe the weak mind needs.
