FG health plan is "comic book stuff" - Harney.

She just said this in the Dail, so, is Matta saying the Dutch system does not work?

Was an admirer but she is well past it and should step down. The reforms are not working.

Her stuff is certainly not "comic book" it's more Stephen King stuff!

They where never intended to work as stand alone initiatives outside the operational confines of US Private Health Providers. You are witnessing a Health Service in transition which costs countless billions of Tax Payers money to restructure it both to facilitate and incentivise private investment.

Its only going to get more and more expensive I'm afraid.

So universal health insurance which works in other countries is a bad thing, by colocation which has never worked and has not delivered a single new bed is a good thing.

This woman is a freaking joke. If it were not so serious, it wowuld be funny.

Indeed, the FG plan does at least deserve study. As we've been discussing on another thread, it would seem to offer a rather elegant way of getting local hospitals closed while cutting the ground from under any protests.
However, banks know they have a duty of care to their clients and I'm sure that this should prevent them lending irresponsibly.

unbelievable. the health sector is a total mess and the min health is giving out about FG plans to improve.

i was looking up the waiting lists for appointments in various clinics in Temple Street Childrens Hospital.

    athsma - 18 months
    cardiac - 18 months
    ENT - 12 months
    eyes - 8 months
    Urology - 14 months

18 bleedin months for a child to get a cardiac appointment.....Harney, thats worse than "comic book stuff"...thats borderline criminal neglect by our minister for health

but, hey, we've plenty of HSE managers so we're doing alright!!!

It's almost 3 years since Harney gave herself 9 months to reform the health service:

There's something about Mary - National News, Frontpage - Independent.ie

So even by her own admission, she's failed.

EDIT: I'm interesting in this bit also:

(Harney) took holidays with a tight circle of trusted friends, including Harney's life-long companions, Charlie McCreevy and Irish Times journalist Renagh Holohan.
    Elsewhere (http://www.independent.ie/unsorted/f...-322860.html):

The only others (at the wedding) there were former Dublin footballer Gay O'Driscoll, Geraldine's boyfriend and Renagh Holohan, Mary's best gal pal.
    From an Oireachtais report:

    http://historical-debates.oireachtas...203280054.html

Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment (Ms Harney): I propose to take Questions Nos. 38 and 45 together. [...] The following people accompanied me on board the Government jet: Mr. Oliver O'Connor, special adviser; Ms Catherine Dardis, personal assistant; Ms Bridget Flynn, private secretary; Dr. Frances Ruane, chairperson, Crafts Council of Ireland; Ms Renagh Holohan, journalist, The Irish Times; Mr. Gerry O'Connor, journalist, INN; Mr. Gene McKenna, journalist, Irish Independent; and Ms Carol Coleman, journalist with RTE, joined the delegation in New York.

The total cost to the Exchequer of the trip was €28,145.84.
Are ministers allowed to bring "gal pals" on trips at the tax-payer's expense?
