    DNA Tests for Fathers.

I am not trying to be rightwing by this post but could the state inact legislation that could compel a single mother to furnished the HSE with a named person as the father?

If you cannot name or will not name you recieve a lesser payment, if your not sure then a list of the 5 most likely candidates will provided and they can be DNA tested for paternity.

The father could then be forced to give up part of their wages or benifits, and such a payment would be reduced from the mothers benifits?

I know sometimes a woman wouldnt want anything from the father, he maybe have been an abusive partner or simply a cnut.

And I would have to say that if the child was the result of a rape/abuse etc of course, you shouldnt be giving a scumbag any sort of association with a child.

A lot of surveys seem to suggest that 10% of kids are been brought up by the wrong daddy so maybe mandatory parental tests might be a good idea?

I believe the state has a responsibility towards its citizens but also that a citizen has a responsibility towards the state and each other.

I think Sweden has this. The state can claim child benefit back off the father and the mother gets a reduced rate for the first 3 years if she doesn't provide a name.

I wouldn't object if both parents got equal rights to the child.

its only right men should face their responsibilities and pay and anyway does a child not have a right to know who his father is?

Equal parenting rights now. Anything short of that is a continued denial of equality and human rights.
And implement the Scandinavian system of mandatory naming of both parents on the birth cert. Children have a right to know who they are.

I think that every person should have the right to know his/her parentage.

However, I can forsee many problems with what you suggest. Can you imagine the response if every pregnant woman were forced to disclose the five most likely candidates (why stop at 5?) to be named as father to her child. Imagine the response of those named as possible father and being compelled to have DNA test!

Our labs and courtrooms would be busy.

But I still think that every person has a right to know the identity of parents.

I think the equal rights of the parents are very important a useless parent shouldnt keep the child just because shes its mother.

What brought this to mind is I have just yesterday been informed that a mother of three with the eldest girl 14 now pregnant has called for a test done as the young fella 15 whos stood up, fair play to him is almost without doubt the girls brother. Neither child had a glimmer who their dad was and not many kids bring the propective girlfriend/boyfriend home to meet mommy these days before they do the deed.
