The last thread on this issue was related directly to the Jade Goody factor
and for many (me, anyway) off-putting as it did not deal with the issue in the
Irish context save as an addendum., never mind the bleakness involved in
the issue of her dying.
I wanted to put up both the contact addresses and the links to services in our
areas, so that readers will be familiar with how it is being addressed.
i). There is a national data bank by which people who have undergone the screening
can maintain contacts with services and have regular updates and reminders
regarding check-ups or indeed follow-ups.
ii). Results are given (mostly) within four weeks, though three is not unknown.
iii). There are supports and back-up in place if there is an anomaly detection.
iv). There is quite a high success rate in the area of these cancers, if they
are detected early enough.
