Nationa Cervical Cancer Screening Programme Info and Contacts.

The last thread on this issue was related directly to the Jade Goody factor
and for many (me, anyway) off-putting as it did not deal with the issue in the
Irish context save as an addendum., never mind the bleakness involved in
    the issue of her dying.

I wanted to put up both the contact addresses and the links to services in our
areas, so that readers will be familiar with how it is being addressed.

i). There is a national data bank by which people who have undergone the screening
can maintain contacts with services and have regular updates and reminders
    regarding check-ups or indeed follow-ups.

ii). Results are given (mostly) within four weeks, though three is not unknown.

iii). There are supports and back-up in place if there is an anomaly detection.

iv). There is quite a high success rate in the area of these cancers, if they
    are detected early enough.

This links directly to the programme explanatory:Current - Cervical Check

This discusses the policy initiatives of IFPA:Cervical Cancer Screening / National Work / Issues & Policy / ifpa home - Website Interface

This is a very serious issue that needs to be funded. The government needs to allocate the money for the jab as soon as possible.

In many ways the screening programme has been very successful in detection and of course discussion on sexual health
issues; but the problems of withdrawing funding from the Vaccine is still unaddressed.

The results take 5 weeks...I know!!!

Abnormal results are delievered via a letter through the post with no warning....I know!!!

Back up is a panicky call to my practise nurse...who was moritified cos she didnt know!!

The leaflet with the letter suggested a different further investigation than what the letter suggested!

    What will happen?
Don't know...back to my own obs/gynae next week...(thanks for seeing me!!!) and its seconds away ..ding..ding...round 2

Spidey I know a young mother whose been through the mill, she blesses early detection (believe me).

Her last test came through ok. (after five years of treatments, six monthly checks and much fear)

ln reference to the above comment re communicating test results, l had imagined in my naivety that the medical practicioner would pass on the results to the patient rather than some unsignalled anon letter . most doctors utilise good patient data systems and many are participating in the scheme = strange that the doctor/nurse did not make a call to discuss results.
