HSE Cork/Kerry madcap plans leaked to Examiner

CORK University Hospital (CUH) is set to become the only acute hospital in Cork and Kerry, according to an unpublished report seen by the Irish Examiner.

The recommendation is likely to cause political embarrassment on the door- steps for Government candidates running in the local elections.

The Health Service Executive (HSE) had planned to publish the report on June 9, four days after voting takes place.

Revealed: CUH to be sole acute care centre | Irish Examiner

The CUH management can't even manage to provide a helipad in the hospital grounds for their existing trauma centre. One can see how they get on so well with HSE management.

Don't start me on CUH .... I have had some VERY bad experiences there and it's relational, graphic, dramatic, traumatic and lots more besides ...but here is not a place for that

All I can say is welcome to the people of Kerry .... it's one hell of an "experience" there

Nice to see that the people who the managers call stakeholders get a nod.

of course everyone will continue to support the giving of vast funds to Harney/Drumm and co , even in the teeth of screwed-up decision-making and gross mismanagement. but hey thats FF/Green:- chuck money/employ focus groups/apply spin &c

but never once deal with the issues.

Radio Kerry are going big on this. Apparantly this report was not supposed to see the light of day untiil after June 5th. I really really would not want to be a FF candidate in Kerry for the next couple of weeks. I am actually begining to feel sorry for them at this stage.

A&E would be gone from Kerry as well according to Radio Kerry. What will somone in Dingle do for emergency services!! The report was to be published on June 9th.

I have some familiarity with the Hospitals in this area and in my experience CUH is probably the worst run hospital of them all. Mallow is well run but its an old building in a poor location. Mercy is well run but again the building is unsuitable, its old with large nightingale wards.

CUH is a new hospital (not that you would think it on the wards) on a good location but has huge amounts of problems.

Make their peace with God? Sorry that's very flippant but that is a frightening prospect. Are they going to FLY such people over to CUH by helicopter? Oh sorry I forgot, there's no helipad - ah they could fly them to Cork Airport and then get an Ambulance the few miles from there - yeah that would work

The recession will be the making of the health service.

This country should have no more than 8-10 acute hospitals and lots of lots of primary care clinics.

Granted, the existing regional hospitals need investment, but its good to see the continued demise of the union-run, mrsa-invested county hospital with its usual coterie of gombeen politicians hangind around the front door waiting to have their picture taken.
