Staff facing unpaid leave as heart-ops budget cut

The country's biggest children's hospital is asking staff to take unpaid leave as it tries to find €6m in savings.
Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin, Dublin, has been forced to reduce the number of operations it carries out because of a funding cut. Now it has asked its workers to take a break in the summer.
The Health Service Executive (HSE) gave the hospital a financial allocation of €137.9m this year, down 4pc on the 2008 figure.
Yet Harney is giving consultants €60K PA more!!!!!!!

    Full story here.

Makes you wonder how much was blown on 'advice' for the mythical World Class Children's Hospital on Bertie's beloved Mater site.

    That's incorrect. The heart-ops budget wasn't cut.

The hospital's budget was cut and they decided that letting children die was preferable to reducing absenteeism or ('insert wastage here').

Absenteeism - 5% of hospital hours lost

It still doesn't make it right to give consultants an extra 60K for 4 hours a week!

Consultants are overpaid in Ireland I agree but there was allot more involved in those contracts than just 4 hours a week and you know (or should know) it.

I don't care! They are paid well over the odds as it is. No-one should support this salary increase in anyway whatsoever IMHO.
