    425 Patients on Hospital Trolleys

According to rte.ie there are 425 patients on hospital trolleys, this figure is just 70 below the record figure of 495 patients recorded in March 2006, when Mary Harney called it national emergancy.

How muc has been spent on health in the last 2 years? and we are more or less in the same mess. We have a Independent Minister for Health, who has no mandate from the people to set out our health policy.

This health service is a mess, this government is a mess, we need a GE now.

One of the issues is that the bed capacity that was removed in the 1980's was never replaced so we have had a real problem with capacity ever since. The HSE and FF government are now proposing to introduce further cuts but introducing them through the backdoor of reconfiguration - case in point almost 60 beds are being lost at Monaghan but have not been replaced in louth.
Expect more people on trolleys before the year is out

Much of that money was spent hiring the very beaurocrats doctors now complain are making it harder for them to treat their patients.

coisceim1, Drumm and Harney will swear blind we don't need more beds.
The issue is people being admitted that don't need to be they said.
    They said that in 2007.
With these numbers clearly they were wrong.

But it's ok, co location will sort it all...

People are going to A&E when they don't need to and this increases the pressure on our hospitals

But those people who go to hospital inappropriately are/shhould be discharged after initial examination/investigation. But the "people on trolleys", as i understand it, are those who have been assessed, require admission and are awaiting admission to the ward..... no?

It costs €100 to attend A&E without a referal, whereas it costs nothing if you go with a referal from a GP, which will cost you about €50.

People who attend A&E for non-emergencies are idiots.

So why are all the people on trolleys awaiting admission?????
We do not have enough acute beds to deal with the slighest blip in the system.
50 awaiting admission in Cavan today with only 5 alleged "bed blockers" in the system!
WHY because Drogheda had to go off call on Monday and all patients were asked to attend other hospitals.

There is a big increase in medical admissions, true, at the moment!!
Its due to it being the winter for fe*ks sake and respiratory illnesses and the "WINTER" vomiting bug(clue being in the name!!!!!!)

    It's a no brainer!!!

Oh and by the way did anyone else notice this today in the Indo??
