Yes, Zanu-FF will save 10 million a year from this. I think its aprox 90 lives a year are lost to this. How much do Zanu-FF spend on consultant reports each year? This is yet another reason to remove these morons.

A typical cop-out by Fianna FAIL!
This is absolutely disgusting! A vaccine that could prevent cervical cancer from a young age and they bin it.

As for free cervical cancer screening, of course it should be free from the age of puberty on as well. Mammograms should be free in the same way, not just from 50.

You should inform yourself about this matter , before commenting , the vaccine is not the be all and end all , you still need the a national screening programme anyway, the original desicion to go with the vaccine was the stupid one , for that you should blame the harney. Actually the screening programme they have set up will turn out to be one of the most expensive in the world. They got the best consultants advise on what to do, bu they never checked who the consultants worked for!!!

I know the vaccine isn't the be all and end all smart ar$se! It is preventative medicine though - something we have very little of in the south compared to other countries.

Agreed on the consultancy process but the vaccine is very important - it was estimated that the programme would prevent at least 7 out of 10 cancers of the cervix and possibly even more in the future.

But the key for this govt - which is increasingly and sickeningly taking a Bush-ite attitude - it takes between 10 and 20 years for a cancer to develop after HPV infection. So any benefits in reducing cervical cancer wouldn't be seen for quite a long time. Cue Cowen's short-term-ist reflex to kick in and, not content with the criminally negligent state of breast cancer care this govt has already ensured, his consequent two fingers to this area of women's health.

It's time for Cowen to go, he is an absolute disaster. Zanu-FF need to have an immediate heave, he's losing votes left right and centre as the seconds tick by

You may be both right about FF and elections but in the case of vaccine , the best system has been proven to be a good screening programme , this programme should national in ireland , like other countries , this will bring down CC , not a vaccine, remember its the civil servants that have signed off on this programme not Harney, and whilst FF/PD must be held accountable , so must the civil servants but they are not, even with an FG/Lab govt this would not change, so how much further on would we be?

But we don't have a decent screening programme do we? Look at mammograms for example. They are only free for women aged 50 and over. There have been untold cases of breast cancer under that age.

Does anyone know who Mothers at Home are? Some nutter from them was on Matt Cooper arguing that the vaccine would promote promiscuity.
