    Catholic Church attacking IVF

The Irish Times yesterday reported that the Catholic hierarchy in Ireland has launched an attack on the acceptability of IVF in Irish society.

    Have they learned nothing!

It really galls me that a group of elderly bachelors would assume to have more understanding about the reasons and motivations of people who undergo IVF treatment and the heartache that they go through in the process. To suggest that this is in someway a selfish act shows an alarming lack of insight and insults the intelligence of those who have made a very difficult decision in their lives.
There may be a requirement for further legislation in the area but I fail to understand what the church has to offer in this.

Why do people like you get worked up about the church? Do you go to mass and lsiten tot hem every Sunday? If not then ignore them. IVF is here to stay and there isn't a damn thing the Catholic Church can do against it.

Okay: should the Irish Times also ignore them?

No. But if you don't like what they say turn the page. The Catholic Church have no pwer in Ireland anymore and little influence. Their stance on IVF makes them a laughing stock.

So, if their stance is laughable and they aren't experts in this area, why publish their opinion?

That's clearly untrue. They have a virtual monopoly on our children and a lot of friends in government.
Do you remember when Bertie decided that the tax payer would foot a good chuck of the compensation for abuse victims?

I can't speak for "people like me" but I personally am annoyed that an organisation without any mandate, but which still has the ability to influence public thinking, should try to intervene in a matter about which they can't have any real understanding.
I'm sure "people like you" would accept that the church's influence on contraception, divorce and abortion legislation caused unnecessary heartache to a lot of people and I would have serious concerns about them getting involved in a debate on AHR legislation.
