Private consortium to build National Children's Hospital

An article by Tom Lyons (Sunday Times) reports that the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board intend to sign a contract, with a private alliance, to develop the proposed National Children's Hospital at the Mater site.
    The selected private consortium comprises:
    The Health Partnership.
    PMG.
    BDO Simpson Xavier.
    Beauchamps Solicitors.

    The contract is worth €800m.
Philip Lynch of One51 chairs the Development Board.Joe Kelly, former CEO of Harlequin Healthcare is interim chief executive.Harry Crosbie is also a member. The Health Partnership is owned by Noel Daly and Deirdre Foley-Woods.They are among the main backers of the €75mWyndale Clinic, to be located on the grounds of Letterkenny Hospital.

Given the current economic realities, surely it is incumbent on the Dept. of Finance to conduct a thorough review of this proposal, before any contract is hastily signed?

Certainly need to be sure that this is done properly - but in the current environment I would also be loathe to see further delays.

btw - BDO (an accountancy firm) and Beauchamps Solicitors - wtf are they doing in a consortium to build a hospital. Yes the consortium needs accountants and legals but you'd normally expect them to hire in rather than include them in the consortium - or am I missing something???

Re: Private consortium to build National Children's Hospital

It is quite an intricate set up.
A board ,established by Harney under Statutory Instrument, has been given the capacity to contract on the State's behalf.
It appears that they intend to do this imminently.
However.Given the certain uncertainty that surrounds the Metro Project, and the National Development Plan(proposed funding vehicle).
Are we looking at a degree of Paediatric privatisation, to make up any possible funding deficit for the NCH proposal?

Does 'private consortium' mean that a builder will be hired to build the hospital or does it mean that the hospital itself will be privately owned?

What's the name of that US medical firm that Harney's husband is on the board of?

I think, once upon a time, the State used its own people to build things. the OPW, the Dublin Corpo and so on.

Nowadays they just hire in a private contractor who does for half the price in a quarter the time.

You forgot to mention the bit that they only hire builders who have donated money - in cash - to FF and the PDs (same thing now) and you might also like to give an example of any of these contractors who have ever come in under budget and on time?

Most of the motorways were built on time and under budget.

As for the money donation, I have no proof, so I cant post it.
Did'nt seem to stop you though...

the agencys responsible for most contracts - the OPW and the NRA were told a few years ago when all the overbudget and behind schedule stories were in the paper that from then on they had to choose tenders that were the most pesmistic when it came to cost and timeframe and look hey presto , all public projects are underbudget and ahead of schedule!
"the view that a natural father who is caring for his children in such circumstances has absolutely no constitutional rights or protection in respect of his relationship with his children, and must accept the few crumbs that fall from the table of statutory protection, is increasingly untenable."

You forgot to add that privately built hospitals are designed not to help people bit to kill them and use their bodies for GMO research to cocece the Third World to embrace the NWO.
