    NOW HSE ATTACKS MENTALLY ILL

Not content with attacking the weakest in our society, inclluding children with Downs Syndrome by slashing their special needs teachers, the HSE has cut occupational therapists, writing groups, art classes, day centres for those suffering from long term depression.

I was shocked to be told by a friend who I help with Writing groups that the arts teacher, my friend who was employed for 30 hours per week spread out over four centres, and the occupational therapists for four centres have had their hours cut to 3 hours per week!

This at a time when we have one of the highest rates of suicide in Europe, if not the highest.

Where will this end. Why won't other political parties do something. I've been in hospital now for 3 weeks, longer in fact, I think, and I appreciate having such good medical care but jesus, I live in a rural area. Some people have no one to talk to, nowhere to go to, except these care centres. Somebody do something. Please.

I wonder how many admin staff and middle managers they have cut. Or Impact might have a say there I'd say..
Ireland interests are best secured within a more dynamic EU. Vote YES to Lisbon.

But one must remember that a suicide costs the health service very little: doctor confirms time of death, coroner pokes around a bit, some paperwork, maybe €200 of tax money in total. Better that more people die in this cost-effective manner than living contented lives until a longterm illness requiring expensive machinery and procedures takes them in old age. The HSE could even award a small grant to the next-of-kin as a thankyou for a selfless, money-saving act.

Very bad taste, even with the note at the end. Bad taste.
Food tastes better when you put it all together! It's the one best mayonnaise!

How are you posting from hospital Housewifey? Get VHI and get into a private mental health place is all i can advise sufferers of mental illness. Mental health health provision is a fraction of what it is in other developed countries and needs increased funding but yet they are gonna cut resources? Bonkers. In long run it would pay off to have early ,well resourced intervention.
