Should the age of retirement be changed?

A report in the UK recommends the age of retirement from work be 69.

What do you think? Do you fancy flipping burgers or cutting hair till you're nearly seventy?

Is this just another way of saying, "slavery ain't abolished yet"?

Working after 65 should be income tax free

I think we will have no choice, certainly continental european countries to raise the retirement age to at least 70. But first things first. Retirement shouldnt be compulsory at 65.
Ireland interests are best secured within a more dynamic EU. Vote YES to Lisbon.

It should be changed. It should be reduced to 55, so that older people can have some decent time off while many are able to enjoy it

How to deal with the pension timebomb.

Raise retirement age so that enough people die before getting a pension that you can afford to pay for the rest. Ideally raise the age to 75 so the average person will never collect a pension.

Them aul lads are voters too, you'd be out in a flash unless you want to strip them of their vote too!
Seriously though, giving them a tax exemption from 65 on would keep most happy and would keep them contributing to the economy

ok making ones earnings tax free after they hit a certain age needs to be subject to a cap, say 100,000 euro otherwise company directors et al would be living off the younger generation in a grossly unfair fashion.

65 sounds reasonable as a starting point. Removing compulsary retirement is not practial for all professions some I strongly recomend would need to be asked to go into teaching there field of expertise. Call me ageist but I can see problems with people in positions that can't be gotte rid of.
