    Time for Harris to go.

    FG have failed us all.

They have created this situation to force the citizens of this country into private healthcare insurance despite the fact we pay massive amounts of tax already.

FG, the party of corruption and spin.

Ah, you’re back. We’ll try again. Who would you put there instead and more importantly, why? Please don’t run away this time.

Similarly there are probably plenty of young healthy people in well paid jobs who don't have health insurance at all...

Fix the system and perhaps private health insurance numbers will fall... and fall significantly if it's fixed properly...

But if you think people should be penalised for having health insurance or that they're going to drop it before the health service is fixed you're deluded...

You're also viewing this with a black and white kind of clarity that does not reflect reality...
As a generality it is true that poorer people cannot afford private healthcare and are forced to use the public system , Those who can , avoid the public system by paying for private health insurance.

Im not viewing it with black and white clarity, I have PHI , because I know , the 2 tier system is set up on the Ryanair model,- Of course you dont have to pay for priority boarding, but we will make it very uncomfortable for you if you don't.

Ironically if the Health care system was up to NHS or heaven forbid French standards, no one would need to pay PHI- and so the HSE would loose a significant income stream.

There is a perverse incentive to make the system so bad that over 50% of the population pay "priority boarding" for a free healthcare system.

Yeah... FG are fully to blame alright... FFS...

And sure when Harney was actually making a difference which led to considerable improvements to cancer services the PDs were being lambasted too...

The fact is they have ALL failed miserably to sort this out over decades... and a significant reason for that has got to be down to vested interests inside the system who are embedded, intransigent and who have no interest whatsoever in fixing anything much regardless of who is in government.

Elective surgeries and day cases should be contracted out to the private system, or move these procedures outside general hospitals to annexes within campuses or something.

I know it's like moving the deckchairs on the Titanic, but if A+E has no beds to transfer cases to, maybe those beds are being occupied by elective patients. I dunno.

Well Netherlands was one country we tried to emulate wrt to their Universal Health Insurance. That didn't work out too well. Maybe he's best staying in the High Country for now.
