    Hmmm.

    Patient focus.

A charity. With no stated CRA number. With no chy number. With no published accounts.

The IPA is also struck off the CRO register and dissolved, but yet the DoH & RTE keep referring to Stephen McMahon as head of the IPA, when there's no such legal entity.

A trainee anesthetist told me about a decade ago that when a woman was close to death, a porter refusing a request immediately to bring something from stores needed for the operation. He refused because he wanted to complete his smoking break outside. Porters are told by their union to assert self importance.

I've heard of a case where a porter on a smoking break refused to respond to a request for supplies as a woman lay close to death on an operating table. The unions encourage porters to assert self importance.

HSE management is the refuge of the less than mediocre.
The sooner pay is linked to ability and performance and accountability, the better.
A firm line similar to that taken by Thatcher to the unions is required.

The HSE needs to be designed from the bottom up - based on patients' care needs BUT based on a realistic budget.

Politicians need to be kept well and truly OUT of the process - all decisions need to be made on a clinical effectiveness and value for money perspective and budgets need to be allocated on a 5 year basis.
    FRANCE

The French model is similar to ours with its reliance on private hospitals for services that private health care models can supply efficiently. Administration is far more efficient than ours. For chronic care that is unprofitable, French state hospitals are subsidised. The record of service is superior to the HSE and the NHS in the UK.

Money does not follow the patient but is largely given to hospitals in arbitrary budgets without a good level of accountability for results.

Given the extremely high pay of Irish hospital workers compared to the UK and France, Ireland can't afford the additional hours. Irish nurses make about 40% higher pay than the UK although new Irish nurses are on lower pay since austerity.
