Half of society 'thinks Dáil should protect human embryos'

    Link here

A new survey has found that 50% of Irish people think the Dáil should legislate to protect human embryos.

The research was carried out by Millward Brown IMS last Autumn for the Pro-life Campaign.

It also found that over two thirds of the population are opposed to abortion, except if it's needed to save a mother's life.

    From today's Irish Times:

Anti-abortion poll: the results and question

    YES 67% NO 14%

    Don't know/no opinion 19%.

Members of the public were asked if they would support a "constitutional amendment to prohibit abortion, while allowing the continuation of the existing practice of intervention to save a mother's life in accordance with Irish medical ethics".

Yes the stupid proles didn't give the right answer that time. Ever notice they never have polls to ask support for continued legalised divorce?

Don't Family Planning Clinics here accomdate women that wish to go to Britain for abortion? Isn't that de facto abortion in this country? Just that we don't want to be seen as saying it's ok?

In any event, I'm still unsure about where I stand on it. Even after giving it a lot of thought and having been through it myself. I don't feel like it's right, but in the same time I don't think a complete ban on is right either. I wouldn't like it to end up like abortion is just another form of contraception which is the feeling I've gotten in other countries.
