Christ you've only just started work. Is that what life in the PS is like ... just counting down the days until retirement from day one. No wonder that Tusla woman was too depressed to listen to the news.

With additional voluntary contributions AVC it can be two thirds . At 69 on welfare you will have to show you are looking for work
A non national can enter employment at 55 and is eligible for a the full contributory pension .An Irish worker with 35 + years contributions if there is a gap, eg worked abroad 2 years they may not be eligible for the full payment .
This anomaly has been discussed for years but nothing done about it .
An EU worker has the right to bring their elderly parents who can get a non contributory pension .I suspect many former asylum seekers and refugees will be on welfare for life . The idea to bring in those to work for minimum wage they will likely work for a few years to obtain welfare . As mentioned earlier in the 80's 14% unemployment, high emigration , no housing shortage and no pension time bomb ? .

Does the €5 increase with inflation over the 50 years?

Is the €1 million in today's value or some lesser value due to inflation?

...and that's being pushed out now. The contributory pension was an enabler for an active retirement between 65 and maybe, tops 75.

The government's brightest and best, who will not be impacted by this, are proposing that half of your active retirement should be scarified on the altar of greed.

I've been paying PRSI for nearly 25 years on an inferred contract that I would have a contributory pension at 65 to fund an alternative lifestyle - such as you've outlined. Now it seems I'll have to be on the dole, making sure I'm "available" to work despite being most likely unskilled at any real role by then.
