What has Harney got to do with this?

Whenever the HSE make a potentially unpopular decision it's "a matter for the HSE".

Whenever there is some good news then it's thanks to Harney.

Harneys Career has been far more successful:

Appointed to the Seanad in '77 (Youngest ever), Member of Dublin County Council from 1979, Member of Dáil Éireann from 1981, Longest Serving Female Member of the Dáil,

Leader of the Progressive Democrats,Tánaiste for 9 years, Minister for Health & Children, Minsiter for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Junior Minister at Environment

Robinson: Dublin City Council, Seanad Eireann and the Presidency - All worthy honours but no where near to the impact that Mary Harney has had in Irish Politics

WTF does her personal health have to do with anything. Last time I checked it was the Dept of Health and not the Dept of The Healthy.

I've said it before. If she wasn't a woman her weight wouldn't matter. Never heard a word about Brian Cowen's waistline while he was Minister of Health.
In modern politics, image is everything - sad but true. Therefore it is giving out the wrong image to have an obese Minister running the Department of Health. Gender is irrelevant IMO. Cowen was also a bad example when in the post.
I have to say Aindriu, I agree with Munion here. Harney's policies concern me far more than her size. It's what she is doing and not what she looks like that is the real issue. Her weight or anything else to do with her appearance should not be introduced in a serious political debate and the nation's health service is a very serious issue.
Fair enough but the state of the health service is nowhere near as good as PD supporters on here are bragging. God help cancer sufferers in this country for one. God help those who are just outside the threshold of cover for free medical cover but cannot afford insurance.

Health care should be a right not a priviledge to those who can afford it or afford insurance.
One of the moderators on here really wrecks my head with his/her power mad ego

Hikers kick-off post on this thread has a link to a news story that doesn't mention anybody called "Mary Harney".

It does mention the HSE as announcing 60 extra consultants. But, Wolverine, did you not read the report carefully? It indicated that the hospitals are in competition in order to qualify for these consultants. They must meet certain criteria etc. So, since Mary Harney is, in the minds of some, the only politician who knows anything about competition, well obviously she must get the credit for this.

    Stand to reason, doesn't it?

You forgot to list the grades Harney got in her Inter cert. Oh, and by the way, you also forgot to mention the UN High Commissionership.

Poor old robbo - she should have taken a leaf out of Harney's and Fianna Fail's book and claimed credit for things that happened on her watch but which she had no real control over.

Celtic Tiger, Peace process, Clare winning the all ireland in 95, and so on and so fourth.
