80% Support Abortion To Save Life Of Mothers

Can we expect the government to make a move on?

Up to 80% of the electorate say they would support a change in the law to permit abortion in cases where the life of the woman is at risk, according to a survey in today's Sunday Times.

    Right.

So 20% of the population believe that the 'rights' of a foetus take precedence over the life of the mother?

Forgive me if I don't find that statistic terribly encouraging.

I think 20% of the population worry that the legislation will lead to abortion on demand.

“As experienced practitioners and researchers in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, we affirm that direct abortion is not medically necessary to save the life of a woman. We uphold that there is a fundamental difference between abortion, and necessary medical treatments that are carried out to save the life of the mother, even if such treatment results in the loss of life of her unborn child. We confirm that the prohibition of abortion does not affect, in any way, the availability of optimal care to pregnant women.”

Or they could try being reasonable sane adults and debate it rationally without screaming murderer whilst waving pictures of aborted babies, but maybe some day.

Of course it wil. We have already voted to reject the exclusion of a suicide threat as ground for abortion. We basically believe in abortion on demand but we are not grown-up enough as a society to face up to it.
