autism and asd-fault of the parents!

The psychologist Tony Humphries has published a piece venting his 'opinion' that ASD is essentially an issue of parenting.

No facts, evidence or research are used to back up his assertion.
One wonders if his 'parenting' courses in UCC are infected with his 'opinion' and whether it is time for UCC to look for a new lecturer.

Autism is bad enough to deal with without a so called expert blaming the parents again. Is it the 'refrigerator mothers' theory again?

Blaming parents without hard evidence is extremely counter-productive. Parents are less likely to seek the help they need if they think they'll be judged like that.

    Y
How can you test an unborn baby, for neurological conditions?

Your heartless reference to abortion, would indicate little understanding of anything to do with this.

With a condition such as autism, whereby it is only identifiable by its symptoms which have broadened from very mild to very severe, there are probably some cases where parenting is an issue as with ADHD. However it seems clear with non-mild cases that parenting cannot be the issue.

Autism controversy - The right to an opinion | Irish Examiner

The Examiner forgot to mention that with rights go responsibilities. Humphreys presented no case for his assertion.

Therefore UCC, RTE and any other public funded organisation that pays this gent have a right to expect professional behaviour.
He must now of course be blacklisted from RTE and UCC. He clearly has no notion of what he is talking about.
