Adoptive parents don't think they are biologically connected to their children. They are not engaged in some kind of charade.
When you use the phrase "real parent", you invite confusion because some people might think that the biological relationship is more important than the care-taking relationship, which is clearly not true.
If a child is born to Person X, given up for adoption at birth and raised by Person Y, then the most important relationship in the child's life is going to be their relationship with Person Y.
