    Greens to support co-located hospitals

The Green Party has said it will support the Government's plans to build private hospitals on public hospital grounds despite a Fine Gael-led attempt to force the Government to drop the plans.

Fine Gael is to introduce a private members' motion in the Dáil tomorrow calling for the co-location hospital plan to be scrapped.

The Greens who had strongly opposed the co-location initiative before entering Government said that they now feel in a position to support co-location and will be voting against the motion.

Defending the Greens' new stand, former Cork South Central TD Dan Boyle said the party had won a commitment from Fianna Fáil to have the whole plan reviewed in 2011, and blocked then unless it could be conclusively shown that the new beds had proven to be value-for-money.

Meanwhile, bulldozers are about to level Tara.......

Well this was to be expected, especially when you go around before the election making solemn promises that the Greens in government will stop co-location.

    This is all so entertaining.
They've got nuttin in return. Absolutely nothing. This is the worst deal struck since Chamberlain's 1937 deal with Adolf.

Not really. It appeared Chamberlain got peace in his time. The Greens don't even appear to have gotten an empty promise.

I would give the Greens a chance. They only have six seats and its a PD ministry. At the end of the day the Greens have a chance to implement some of their policies.

The Greens will weather this one, it is part of the deal. I can't see that they could have gained anything on this issue. Tara is the one that will cause them pain and dictate Gormley's if not the Greens future.

Correct in part. But when the reality of co-location hits home for ordinary people it will hit one of the present Government parties hard. It will be nearly 10 yrs before the facts become incontrovertible on the co-location issue and by then the Greens could have been wiped out for one sell out too many. The PDs are on their way out anyway so that means the electorate will take it out on the real culprits, Fianna Fail. They’ll be the only responsible party left in existence to blame.

Then again with this electorate who knows!

Have these people no shame. To think I was very very sympathetic to the Greens before the election.
