When are we going to sort out the Health Service?

Despite numerous attempts by consecutive governments the Health Service seems to stumble from one crisis to another. To be fair, Jame Reilly is only in the job a couple of months so maybe he can reform it. However, he seems to have landed the same poison chalice that Brian Cowen referred to as Anglo. Listening to the radio, the HSE is facing a deficit of 300 million euro this year. Surely we need an all-party committee to be formed once and for all to find a solution. It amazes me that I can go to one of those VHI clinics and be discharged within the hour but with the HSE A and E I am guaranteed an all- nighter.
Fine Gael's new party slogan :Er, what year was that? Circumstances have, you know, changed a bit.

When the health boards were amalgamated into the HSE the administration function could have been cut by 50% easily.
Didn't happen, in fact the number of senior "chiefs " and their wage grade increased dramatically.
Thats boom time politics of expediency for you
Its only a chat, we ain't the world council.
In 2000 the Women's Institute in Britain gave Tony Blair the slow hand clap to demonstrate their contempt.
It was dignified, restrained and effective.Doesn't Bertie deserve the same scorn. No shouting, no abuse, no agression just a relentless slow clap whenever he speaks in public would be enough to end that man's presidential fantasy.

Right there is the problem. Politicians will not ever be able to get to grips with the health service; they do not have the pre-requisite competencies necessary. I'm not referring solely to Health in Ireland, look to the NHS or U.S. Healthcare, minefield of complexity but notwithstanding, I believe there are ways, better ways.

While I agree with most of your OP I believe you are not comparing like with like when comparing a public ED with a swiftcare clinic.
Firstly the volume of patients is a lot less.
Secondly a public ED deals with very serious medical and trauma cases that take precedent over broken arms and stubbed toes.

Look around and you won't see any car crash, heart attack or any serious form of injury or illness.

Or was it Angola that Cowen likened the Dept of health.

I recall people thinking up names for AngloIrish Bank maybe it should have been Angola irish Bank but that would probably be insulting to
the people of Angola

Triage means lighter injuries wait. Should resources be concentrated on the less injured or ill?
