Criticism of Care Homes Owned By some of Ireland's Wealthiest Men

Big-name Irish investors warned about standard of their British care homes · TheJournal

Castlebeck Services, which operates care homes for people with learning disabilities, and owned by a syndicate which includes some of Ireland's wealthiest men, and managed by one of Ireland's best known and most successful businessmen, has been warned by Britain’s Care Quality Commission to "improve the standards of its services or face closure".
The company operates 23 homes across England and Wales.

    The problems included
    Lack of training for staff.
    Inadequate staffing levels.

I suppose savings must be made somewhere.
There's a lifestyle to be maintained.

The good news is that this is happening in England.

This means there will be an investigation, and the responsible parties will be revealed.

In Ireland, Defamation Law makes such issues difficult to discuss. There is a lot of this going on in Ireland.

I'll bet there are aduquate staffing levels and top-class training in the stables.

Another care home in Britain run by Castlebeck, the Irish-owned care company at the centre of allegations of abuse against vulnerable patients, is to close. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) said the company had agreed to close Arden Vale this Thursday. The CQC said it had taken action after seeing "no evidence" of the improvements to care it had demanded. Britain’s National Health Service and local authorities pay Castlebeck an average of €4,000 a week to care for each patient.

The 'care' this company seems to provide to its vulnerable charges includes being pinned down, slapped and doused in cold water.

Three members of staff from a care home near Bristol have pleaded guilty to the ill treatment of residents.

The case follows secret filming by the BBC's Panorama TV programme at the Castlebeck-owned Winterbourne View hospital near Hambrook. Wayne Rogers, 31, of Kingswood, pleaded guilty to nine charges. Allison Dove, 24, of Kingswood, pleaded guilty to seven charges at Bristol Crown Court. Source
