Marmite a health risk?Any excuse. It all sounds a bit like the old French scam of charging ridiculously high taxes on cars with big engines in order to
disincentivise imports from Germanysave the environment.

If you read the article properly, you'll see that the Danish ban on foods with added vitamins is potentially a breach of EU laws on freedom of movement of goods.
If I was the owner of the shop mentioned in the article, I'd make a complaint to the EU Commission and see what happens.
Of course, if it's not a breach of EU law, then the Danes are perfectly entitled to do what they like.
We banned smoking in enclosed places in Ireland. The ban has nothing to do with the EU at all and there's no reason to assume that it ever will be an EU matter.

To be taken with a pinch of salt....the article, not the marmite.
Danish Marmite ban – not Pia Kjærsgaard’s next populist plan to keep foreigners away // Jon Worth
Just the telegraph, and the mail, doing their usual before all the facts are in.
According to Jon Worth's analysis, this case could be taken to the European Court of Justice, as EU food law actually takes precedence over national food law and the banning of a food product on unfounded health concerns violates the principles of the single market. In a 2003 case on banning of foodstuffs (European Commission v Denmark, Case C-192/01) Denmark had failed to fulfil its obligations under art 28 EC by applying a disproportionate restriction on the free movement of goods. Also, Danish derogations to EU food law do not relate to any of the ingredients contained in Marmite. Looks like this ban won't last very long!
You can read the 2003 case in full here:
Case C-192/01
Commission of the European Communities
v
Kingdom of Denmark
«(Failure of a Member State to fulfil obligations – Articles 28 EC and 30 EC – Prohibition on marketing of foodstuffs to which vitamins and minerals have been added – Justification – Public health – Nutritional need)»
Arrêt de la Cour
Got the toast on now with the kettle boiling...nice marmite early morning snack! The Danes can eat...whatever it is they eat...

I've got cheese and marmite sandwiches in my desk drawer ready for lunch. I can highly recommend this as a sandwich filling.!
