An interesting new take on this is that she is staying in 5 star luxury in New Zealand, with her husband paid for into the bargain. I thought there was to be no tax-payers money wasted on St. Patrick's day trips. What does New Zealand hae to offer us that she is there for 2 weeks and can't come home to manage the biggest issue to hit her ministry this year?

Posters please note. NO-ONE in FF wants the gig. It's much easier to out-source out-sourcing to an Indepentent. That way it's not their fault.

Could Cowen pass the poisoned chalice to the Greens?

They could surely use the opportunity to give more jobs to Green supporters who are unqualified for said jobs.

That might be true when the odd bit of scandal or mismanagment emerges. However, we are being treated to a scandal a day when it comes to our health service.

FF TD's can no longer go on national radio and complain about Harney and then sit back and do nothing.

If she is still in Health after the reshuffle FG will put down a motion of no confidence. We'll see then how serious the Sligo dissidents and Mattie McGrath etc are about the state of the health services. Michael Lowry could also vote against Harney - he could do with the good publicity.

This is a tough call for Cowen.

    is harney finished?

    no.

this GOV is finished, they know it. come the next election half em wont be there and as such harney will stay in health till the governments term is up.

thats just the way this bunch of bastards work.

certainly she'll be put under preasure from the media, but cowan wont touch her as IIRC she's gonna retire next time out anyway so he wont want to risk her chucking her rattle out of the pram altogether and making it by election number FOUR.

there'll be alot of huffing and pufffing, and alot of shouting, but in the end the only thing thatll result from this will be a deflection.

i.e the board of tallaght hospital will go instead.

and i bet harney will take credit for that as some sort of postive action on her part.

from the govs point of view theres only 2 years of their term left, and theyll brazen ANYTHING out from now till then.

This scandal has nothing to do with Mary Harney. The anti-Harney movement has more to do with vested interest having their cages rattled by Harney than any desire on their part to see real reform of the health service.

Labour are going to put down a motion of no confidence in Harney.

Charlie o Connor FF backbencher has called for her to be removed and Mattie Mc Grath is constantly expressing his dissatisfaction with her.

Add that to the fact that she has not been entirely truthful about when she became aware of the problems in Tallaght and the media have the bit between their teeth, and I think her number is up this time.

Harney should have been sacked as soon as the PDs disbanded. Having said that I don't see why she should be held responsible for the current fiasco but I hope that she is! The FF spinmasters must have been cringing at the spectacle of Cowen defending her in the Dail on the RTE News yesterday.

At the request of their union masters no doubt.

Nothing so unedifying as backbenchers grabbing a passing bandwagon.
