Here is an ex-porn star telling of her experiences

A former stripper, prostitute and pornographic actress in the 80's and 90's, Shelley suffered major negative effects of the pornography industry and was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Depressive Disorder, Impulse Control Disorder and substance abuse due to years of trauma from the sex industry.

In 1994, she was infected with the non-curable disease Genital Herpes while making a pornographic film and later developed early cervical cancer. Shelley had three unexpected pregnancies from prostitution acts, two ending in miscarriages. Later, with her husband, she had an Entopic pregnancy and a third miscarriage. FOUR total pregnancy losses. Shelley understands very well how destructive the pornography industry is.

    not so glamorous

I look with suspicion on anyone who trys to normalise pornography - and yet it's everywhere - even the pop industry is semi-pornographic

Agreed to a certain degree. Corelation does not necessarily mean causation so simply on the basis of the above one cannot argue that porn leads to sex crimes. It would certainly throw serious doubt on the thesis being advanced, however. Unless the argument being made is that something else is causing the increase in sex crimes and that porn is having an ameliorating effect i.e. the increase would be even greater without porn.
Such a parcel of rogues in a nation!

How about we just nationalise prostitution?

We could have have state funded brothels where the women/men are paid by the state and their services are provided to the public free of charge/small fee.

Would be also useful to have some kind of definition for 'porn'. Are we talking about Playboy, or even Loaded magazine? Or does 'porn' only refer to hard-core stuff? By some definitions, Page 3 is porn. So it would be good to know precisely what's being 'sutdied' here.

This West Wing clip shows POTUS very annoyed with some religious nutjobs. His comment on the price of porn is amusing:

Anyway, anyone citing Bundy's last interview with the religious freakoid as if the interview was even remotely relevant needs their head examined.

Oh and btw, the interview was aired - years ago.

And how many non-criminal porn users did he interview? If your subjects are all violent offenders, your sample is going to be skewed straightaway.

John Court comments on the studies in these countries
FWIW, Court is an avowed Christian conservative - very much one of those I cited earlier as approaching the issue from an ideological perspective. For some of the responses to his work see "Evangelical Psychologists" on this page.

Yes,an inciteful interview with a mass killer who cites pornograhy as an early causative factor is just mad, isn't it. Talk about being blinkered. This takes the bigoted biscuit.

Initial argument that porn reduces sex crime...well hard to see if there is a link.

What we do know is over exposure to porn (pardon the pun), particularly violent pornography and in particular at a young age, increases the likelihood of feelings of dissociation towards other people. Violent porn increases the likelihood of sex crimes as they do not see the victim as anything other than a sex object.

While everyone has a healthy curiosity, and a little bit of titilation is healthy, many who use porn on a very regular basis find that they cannot develop human relationships, hence the term sad tosser!

But normal curiosity is fine and healthy. In the words of Steve Stifler "Whack away!"

And if you feel like you should violate another person's body against their will as a result of the absense of porn than there is something wrong with you and you should be locked up.

Why, so you can go to B&Q and buy decking on Saturday mornings with some humourless vampire of a women who appeared to be sound in Whelan’s one night 5 years ago but now is addicted to changing you into shell of a man who jumps at her every stare. There is a reason women live longer than men, its cause they kill men, give me Jenna Haze any day.
