    Another Hospital Scandal

57,000 X-rays not reviewed by consultant at Tallaght

More than 57,000 X-rays taken at Tallaght Hospital in Dublin between 2005 and the end of 2009 were not reviewed by a consultant radiologist.

The hospital says that to its deep regret, two patients had a delayed diagnosis as a result.

One died last summer and another is undergoing treatment for cancer.

Tallaght Hospital CEO designate Professor Kevin Conlon said he was 'stunned' to learn of the problem when he was appointed on 14 December last year and was only informed today of the case of the patient who died. ...

It's the result of chronic understaffing of medical doctors, and reliance on nurse-specialist run quangos.

At the end of the day, you need doctors. If you lack them, don't employ them, embargo on their recruitment, people die: either sooner, or later. The same can not be said for a specialist in teddy bear organisation and hand holding therapy.

Will out great Minister for health have something to say on this?
Why does Ireland need any more jobs?. There are not enough people to fill the jobs from the last referendum.

She will say, as she always says "it is a matter for the HSE".

Which it is heads should roll at that hospital particularly at consultant level how could they attend to their paitients without reference to their xrays god even if u have a sprained ankle an xray is looked at? Great vote of confidence in our public health system, No wonder the Yanks are saying no!!

For once I was impressed with the speed of the HSE . When I heard the news I said Mary Harneys response after doing her usual it's nothing to do with me stunt will comission the HSE to do a full investigation and report back with recommendations and when the heat has died down the report will be published and blame systems failures ie. no one really to blame. Instead the CEO of the Hospital was on this evenings news and he said it would appear to be systems failures at the heart of this so the HSE has already decided no-one is really to blame . Great work lads , we're proud of you all.

They haven`t blamed a lack of resources yet. Might be in the final report.

Miriam asked the new CEO of the hospital will anyone be accountable. Ignored the question. Seems as if his only interest is getting people to continue to use Tallaght Hospital

    Where were HIQA ?
