Fine Gael accuse HSE and Gov of a "cover up" of child abuse and neglect by the State

The Government and the Health Service Executive (HSE) have been accused of an endemic cover-up of the problems with child protection services.
Fine Gael’s published a report into the death of a teenage girl in 2002.
The party says the report is a damning indictment of childcare and protection services as it shows the failure to intervene and act.
Fine Gael Children’s spokesperson Alan Shatter says the problem is that the lessons from the mistakes of the past may not have been learned.
“It is unforgivable that a young girl died in 2002, and in 2010 most of the recommendations made to change the system – to ensure other young people in care don’t die – are still not implemented” he said.

The abuse of children in State care continues and the Government has been shown to be engaging in a cover-up and the suppression of reports.

    Nothing changes in Ireland.

Not to mention the hundreds of children who are missing from HSE care in Ireland today. The HSE is a disgrace and Harney's lasting legacy.

Yet another sad example of the state's deplorable record on caring for children. The HSE's record in this area is a national disgrace.

Seeing as how the proposed wording for the children's rights amendment seems to give more power to the state to take children into care, one must pause for thought and ask oneself whether that is a good idea.

What exactly does Barry Andrews, the "Minister for Children", actually do?

He tries not to screw things up while he waits for a promotion. He learned all he knows from Brian Cowen.

This knob has just named the unfortunate person on RTE 1.

When challenged by Sean O'Rourke, he said he had no permission, and his naming was an error, and an oversight.

    My God, what an idiot.

FG did not name this poor girl, biut Barry Andrews did, on public radio

And SOR didn't challenge his waffle about wanting to publish the report, when in reality he was sitting on it.

Barry Andrews, who sounds more and more like a HSE clipboard manager each day, said that the girl died because "there were too many people looking after her".

He also mentioned something about "multidisciplinary" but my radio was just hitting the wall at that stage.

Stupid question - how many people have been sacked due to gross negligence in the handling of this case?

I'd go with a figure of less than 1.
