Thursday 4th Mar. Saw consultant in Mayo General, walked out through A / E Time. 2.30pm. Passed 13 trollies, all occupied. Standing room only in Waiting Room.

Have been waiting now for 7 months for operation to correct former bowel surgery. I've lost all the weight I put on after previous illness and surgery. A lifetime of believing in national health and no to private medicine is rapidly disappearing with my weight.

Doctor suggests I go to A / E, screaming in pain, and then they will operate! But I'm a lousy actor and the pain is variable.

In the interest of fairness can you tell us how long people are on trolleys? The INO uses these figures to bash the HSE (of which let it be said I am no fan) but as far as I am aware these figures are disingenuous to say the least as they are taken in the morning when figures are at their highest due to admissions for electives but by afternoon the figures are a small fraction of this or even zero.

If I may just say Clanrickard, that were you to sit for 24 or more hours beside a trolley that held your nearest and dearest, waiting for a bed to be freed up, you would not think the matter of shortage of staff, and closed wards, was an okay thing. You would be frightened, angry, bloody furious, not with the staff present, but with this bloody Government that has squandered millions on their cronies and encouraged outright robbery of the tax payers. Look at the Port Authority expense figures. Read today's Indo. That article is enough to put anyone on a hospital trolley.

What will happen in 4 weeks time. Will they sit on the trollies for 24 hours + stay on trollies for the duration of the 2 day strike ?
