    Why is that exactly?

Maybe you could get one that says: "Please give me organs to Irish people only."

The simple explanation for this is that there was building work (yes, that's right, the State is improving the hospital) going on in Beaumont at the time, and that to protect transplant patients, they were moved away from the area of the building work, which reduced the bed capacity. During the fortnight in question, there was an unusually high number of available organs, which resulted in 3 organs being sent to the UK.

If this were an ongoing issue, there would be serial evidence of organs been sent to the UK. The fact is that there isn't, and that this was a once off.

Brendan Drumm explained all of this on radio today, but hey, lets not let a few facts get in the way of a bit of 'God Help Us All' hand-ringing.

    Now apologies...

1...was busy working in a acute Dublin hospital today and did not hear the excuses spawned by Drumm today....

2.....Beaumount Hospital have not had less than 30 patients on trolleys since dec...so...I look forward to the building work in beaumount and hope that the aforementioned Drumm...was not spinning either the co-located hospital...or the psychiatric unit....(if it was neither then I apologise to you...not to HIM!!!)

A spokesman for Beaumont Hospital said the controversial export was the result of an "extremely unusual" situation whereby some seven patients had received transplants in the preceding two days, stretching the capacity of the transplant unit. A pancreas transplant patient had also been moved to the unit. Transplant aftercare is regarded as being as crucial as the procedure itself.
Exclusive - Irish donor kidneys sent abroad due to bed shortage

Doesn't seem to be anything to do with building work. It's a disgrace, plain and simple.

The story is far more salacious (Exclusive!) without reference to the building work.

    Ask yourself this:

Is it was an ongoing problem, wouldn't we be sending kidneys to the UK on a regular basis? Are we?

    No.

He was referring to building work being undertaken as part of the National Cancer Control Programme.

The building work was taking place in the same part of the hospital where the transplant patients normally reside, necessitating their removal to another part of the hospital where fewer beds were available.

Beyond that, I really don't have any idea what point you are trying to make.

    You really are a windbag.

    Read his post.

A claim was made, goosebump explained that you were wrong and that building works temporarily resulted in the transplant section being moved to a smaller area with less beds.

I agree its a tragedy that the kidneys could not be used in Ireland but the story originally presented and what actually happened are two different things.

Your response is to ignore the facts and go on a rant.
