    Children's referendum wording published

The Government has published the wording of a proposed amendment of the Constitution on the rights of children.

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, said the proposed change was 'a watershed for Ireland's children'.

He said putting the rights of children into the Constitution would protect children but would not undermine the role of parents or the constitutional safeguard for the family. - RTE News

When they say the wording has been "published", what do they mean exactly?

The wording still isn't available on any Government website; news website; or even the FF website

    Does anyone have it ?

Tsk, some people around here couldn't even find pornography on the internet.

It's here (the wording, that is, at the end of the press release - not pornography).

aww.. was hoping it was the porn

Actually, more to the point, are they still persisting with the crazy idea of a referendum before the GE ?

The constitution should be framed in plain English. What are "imprescriptible" rights? Is this a referendum that will voted upon by the people of Ireland or the Law Society of Ireland.

What? The term is used repeatedly through out our constitution as is.

Theoretically (in the eyes of some lawyers at least, such as the late Mr. Justice Rory O'Hanlon) the "natural" and "imprescriptable" rights of children are ALREADY protected by the Constitution

So why the need to underline it again.....

No exceptions; no loopholes; no excuses.

An imprescriptible right is one that's inalienable and absolute. (And yes I had to look it up). But I think it perfectly reflects the fact that children’s rights should be recognised as natural, inalienable and absolute rights that are as a matter of natural justice protected by the state.

The wording of the amendment and the associated statements seem perfectly reasonable. I would have thought given Enda’s self-declared commitment to protecting children he’d be keen to implement the changes as soon as is possible?

I am sure Kenny will give it due consideration and am confident that neither he nor Ahern will play political football over this important issue.

I don't know about you but I don't look forward to explain "imprescriptible" on the doorsteps at the time of the referendum.

And where are these imprescriptable rights to which the amendment refers set down?
