More new people sleeping rough - Simon.

Simon seeing more new people sleeping rough - The Irish Times - Mon, Sep 21, 2009

I walk down Grafton street most mornings, and see this first hand. It's shocking the numbers in the doorways. over the past few months the increase has been really noticeable. There are now families in doorways...

Geldof may annoy some people, but he hits the nail on the head here..

"I had no idea how betrayed, how angry, how bewildered this country feels. It is bad in London but it is awful here. People are going to be wiped out here. This crisis will pass but in its passing people will be hurt beyond measure.”
I hope NAMA will sort all this out...

NAMA will cripple us further. Its shocking what is being allowed to happen. Fair play to Simon. However their resources are limited. This is only the beginning.

People sleeping rough is a sad indictment on our society. A developed country should be able to provide proper and adequate solutions/options here. No one should have to sleep in the gutter. It's a pity governments don't feel the need to make resources and facilities available to deal with this problem in an organised and comprehensive fashion. Compassion obviously isn't something they trade in.

Our country has no moral compass thanks to Bertie's legacy, which was to take CJH's sociopathic values mainstream.

All TD's should have an induction by Simon and Barnardos, with annual refresher courses.

We are a very un-Christian country, but once our Taoiseach was wearing ashes on Ash Wednesday we could pretend to be catholic...

    Which made it all OK....

We could pretend to be Christian. This island is full of Catholics and Protestants but you'd be hard pressed to find any true Christians among them.

Whatever about the religious platitude, can you explain to me what FG would have or would do different regarding the provision of aid and care for these people?

According to quite a few posters here donning the FG avatar these people are scum and parasites deserving of their lot due to inherent laziness. A notion I'm sure Christ would have been shocked at.

the number of homeless drug-users has trebled in the last four months, according to the chief executive of the Dublin Simon Community Sam McGuinness.
The homelessness is a consequence of the drug use obviously. How much should we be prepared to spend to provide a comfortable life for junkies? If we make it viable to be a junkie in comfort are we going to see more people deciding that letting other people pick up the tab is the way to live?

Funny that there are loads of Catholic-run homeless shelters, not to mention the SVP. Some people simply don't want help and prefer to take their drugs on the streets.
