    The Irish "NOT" Green Party?

A leading UK Green, Derek Wall (who was the last Principal Male Speaker of the Green Party of England and Wales) has suggested that perhaps the Irish Green Party could change their name to the 'Irish Not Green Party' to distinguish themselves from Greens on the rest of the planet.

He suggests that we are dangerously close to tipping point when it comes to climate change and yet the Irish government is happily building new motorways and letting its minister fly by official jet on pleasure jaunts. He says that even the Irish Greens admit this ... The Green Party coalition partners are complicit in the fact that the government jet has been used for pleasure trips for one FF minister (guess who?).

The Irish Greens are now as bad as FF. Has anyone heard them criticise JOD for this?

Interesting to see how international Greens see the Irish Greens. Looks like at least some want to disassociate from the Irish Greens.

It's not unreasonable for Wall to ask questions like that. The Irish Greens took the functional view that whatever modest gains they could make in gov't were better than staying out. There were others who I reckon wanted, not unreasonably, to get their hands on the levers of power from the point of view of experience.

Outside the Greens though, there is a pervasive perception that they were always going to get stuffed by an utterly cynical FF. Few could have expected the extent of the economic collapse, but anyone with their head screwed on knew something was coming down the tracks. So the Greens are in a double whammy entirely of their own making. It must indeed be very disappointing for Green colleagues outside Ireland.

Indeed . The whole 'we are a small party' line is a cop out too , when you consider the significant influence previous 'small parties' have had on government policy .

Would one of the Mods please deal with this Looper. He/She is becoming extremely tedious.

The English Green Party is very dissimilar to other green parties in Europe. Other green parties are realistic enough to realise that green presence in government does not change all anti-ecological policies.
