It seems to suit the population of this banana republic. I am more of a spectator here than a real proud to be Irish resident.

And he got a lot of praise for doing so. Which, of course, missed the point that he completely misled the electorate. I guess it was a sign of how low the value of integrity is in the body politic that this action was considered somehow honourable.

Indeed - if he was a man of principle, honour, or integrity then he would have resigned his Dail seat and offered his electorate the chance to validate his duplicity. Instead he merely waved two stubby, compost stained fingers at us as he clambered gleefully into his taxpayer-funded Lexus.

Then, two years later, when exposed as having interfered twice in a Garda investigation, the same Green hypocrite resigned his junior Ministry - but not his seat - thereby implying that higher standards of conduct are expected of a junior Minister than of a backbench TD - which, of course, also served to validate Willie O'Dea's resignation.

Yet here again he garnered praise for his 'principled' action.

This is why I don't trust Eamon Gilmore when he says he won't go into government with Fianna Fail. Will Eamon have the same honour as Trevor by resigning the leadership of his party and possibly the chance of Taoiseach...nah!
16 years of hurt are over. The Sam Maguire is back in Dublin!

For gods sake are FG supporters so worried that Gilmore is doing so well that have completely lost confidence in themselves. In limerick where i come from they are worried that ODonnell will be taken out by the 2nd LAB candidate Joe Leddin.Suggesting that LAB might support FF will not do much to stop labours steady climb in the polls.in fact it may have the opposite effect as it highlights FGs insecurity partly caused by the realisation that Kenny does not cut it with most urban dwellers and party members feel that Gilmore is outperforming him in the dail.FG have had a couple of disasterous leadership contests, they cant afford another so they had just better get on with it.The fg party will be in government and Kenny will be Tanaiste or Taoiseach, its his last throw of the dice and its going to work out ok if he can muzzle mad Vrad.

In reality, he resigned after he had led the Greens into government with FF, the very thing he had promised not to do. And he said: "This is the proudest day of my life!" Doesn't look praiseworthy to me.

Of course Trevor has done tremendous work on the issues closest to his heart, hasn't he? Like the ban on corporate donations. What's that you say? There's no ban on corporate donations, and there isn't going to be such a ban? You mean, after three and a half years in government the Greens have failed to do anything about the issue?

Obviously, light bulbs are a higher priority than corporate donations. (Remember: the Greens' sacred mission to save the world, and I genuflect as I say that.)

Ah sure, Gormley & co, their hearts are in the right place, aren't they? No? Not even that? Well, I am sure where their fingers are! In the till. Still.

+1, it's stunning how he gets away with it.
