Just spotted this oooooold thread. In case the original poster is lurking somewhere, the nomination went to Cllr. Tony McDermott.

A contested Green Party selection convention eh? I choose to take that as a sign of vitality in the party. For the record, Cllr. O 'Brolchain was chosen around the same time to be the Green Party candidate in Galway W., he ran unopposed.
It was a shame with two such fine candidates as Patricia and Tony, there had to be a loser, but as AndrewM says, it is a sign of vitality within the party. Especially disappointing that a capable female politician was denied a crack at the Dail. Not that i am advocating strict quotas for female candidates - i dont think the Greens have enough potential candidates of either gender to engage in this yet, but it is important for the party to work to get more women elected.Originally Posted by mercyboy34
Interestingly, in the neighbouring Dublin South West, two female candidates sought the nomination.
