Green Party launches volunteering policy
The Green Party today launched its policy for supporting, acknowledging and celebrating community and voluntary activity.
Speaking at the launch of ‘Supporting Volunteers - Building stronger communities,’ Green Party spokesperson for Community and Rural Affairs Dan Boyle TD said that, “Evidence suggests that voluntary engagement rates are lower amongst certain categories of our population than others. Our policy proposals aim to lift possible barriers to participation by offering incentives and recognition - such as a refundable tax credit for valid voluntary work, career break entitlements and academic accreditation for skills developed.
“We also propose the expansion of local volunteer centres nationwide and better promotion of volunteering in primary, secondary and third level educational programme.”
