FG plans on Ireland to be a net energy exporter in 10 years.

During his speech this evening, Enda Kenny said he plans for Ireland to become a net exporter of engery in 10 years. He also said massive resources will be put into alternative enery such as wind, wave and biomass.

Do the current bed partners of the Green have such ambition?

Not really, They dont seem to want us to become a carbon neutral country or export clean renewable energy to help our economy by employing more people in the green sector and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, They seem to be more fixated on jailing people for posessing ordinary lightbulbs, and getting us all to switch our lights off for an hour once a year.

I've been saying for a long long time on here that FG need to align their environment, energy, planning and transport policies with those of the Green party. They are the only credible policies around. Can the Green Party seriously rebuff such ideas and lye down again with the Tara maulers and builders?

Its hardly going to save the planet, and bike are very cheap for anybody who wants to use a bike, go to gumtree.ie and you will pick up a bike for very little.

I would have expected better things from the Greens in government.

I didn't think the bike scheme was intended to "save the planet". It's one out of about 50 things that needs to happen in transportation in Ireland. FF would never have bothered with this without the Greens and in fairness to Dempsey he has put cycling at the top of his agenda with the National Cycle Policy imminent. Cycling to work, mainly in urban areas, is not the solution but a major part of the solution.

    anyway back to energy

Nobody who is concerned about environmental issues takes FG seriously.

How many times have FG TDs lampooned the Greens in the Dail over things like bicycles and light bulbs, and FG's record at Local Authority level re. planning is probably worse than FFs.

My local FG councillor drives a Toyota Landcruiser, and he now expects me to believe that FG are serious about renewable energy?

    Yeah, right.

precisely what i've also been saying. While FGs record in planning is horrendous, FF brought it (down) to a whole new level in relaiton to corruption. Hopefully a change of direction will bring an end to the sniping at the Greens which always smacked of them being unwilling, unable and afraid to go after FF. That fear has gone now and they should leave the Greens aside and let both parties get on with their jobs - Greens to govern and lead on environmental issues and FG to rid Ireland of the cancer that is FF

(PS - let your local 4x4 drivin' TD know exactly what you think of his dirty ugly sh1tecart if he calls to your door in June)
