speaker at green party conference call for Labour Sinn Fein and Green Alliance

Dr. Peader Kirby of the University of Limerick addresses the Conference. Good contribution gets very interesting at around 10.30 mins into the video clip. He basicially call for a new alliance and re-alignment of Politics. Interesting stuff. See link (Thanks to Limerick Blogger)

First Grizzly Adams, now the Greens. They both must be getting really scared. Gilmore has made it abundantly clear to all comers that Labour will fight the next GE on an independent platform and is not interested in tie-ups with FG, SF or the Greens.

surely FG will now say the only way to keep FF and Sinn Fein out of government is to vote FG

with everyone courting Labour - the new popular kid in school - FG could benefit enormously by keeping their distance

Some rare anti FF stuff there! Reminds me of a great speech of days of yore - The Planet Bertie Speech. Gripping stuff indeed and how they subsequently went on a successful flea hunt shortly afterwards.

Frauds the lot of them from the man who would not lead them into a coalition to the failed politician, (Bertiespeak to Joe Higgins) and now appointed senator and on to the minister lording over the Tara desecration...

It would be funny if it were not sad. Tinfoil hats and cabbage ministers, banned lightbulbs and ministerial bicycles (Giant obviously) being shadowed by ministerial mercs.

Good points, GG. The cheers and appaluse that accompanied the good doctor's stirring words sound very hollow given that his audience is deep in government with the very people the speaker was attacking. The Green party are either frauds or schizophrenic.

He's not the first to come up with this idea which seems to be based on arithmetic rather than logic. Left = Dáil - FF - FG. What amuses me is that people who think that FG & Labour are incompatible despite historical precedent believe that a "Left" mixture could agree on the time of day.

A formal left alliance is a no brainer when you think about it.

Combine the parties support in recent polls giving in an around 30-35%, with clever vote management and candidate selection you could easily see a left bloc winning 50 seats.

Of course there is lots of baggage currently between the 3 parties and their supporters, but i for one would like for a common left consensus in this country to emerge to tackle Tweedle dee and Tweedle dum.

A left wing government would be an economic, cultural and political disaster for this country. Socialism has failed miserably wherever it has been tried but shocks me is just how many people still think it can work. Free markets, low taxes and meritocracy are the only way forward.

Thank God we don't have a left wing government which would create a disaster for the country! Oh dear what am I saying...

Disaster without socialism as we speak.

I agree. Socialism simply doesn't work. It would be a disaster and not what this country needs or, indeed, will ever vote for. We must come up with a workable alternative to the Killinaskully Crony Capitalist version of neo-liberalism which landed us in this mess.
