Green Party appoint new General Secretary

Mr. Dónall Geoghegan has been appointed as the new General Secretary of the
Green Party. Mr. Geoghegan will take up the position in January.

Announcing the appointment today, Green Party Leader, Trevor Sargent TD,
said, "Cuirim fáilte is fiche roimh Ard-Rúnaí nua. This appointment is a
further important step in the development of the party and is all part of
the re-structuring and renewed professional approach of our organization.
Dónall Geoghegan will bring his considerable organisational and
team-building skills to this challenging position. I have no doubt that
Dónall will enhance the role of the Green Party in its goal of transforming
this country for the better and helping each community reach its
    potential."

Mr. Geoghegan said that he is delighted to have the opportunity to serve
the Green Party and contribute to its further development. "The Party has
already made great strides and has devised a dynamic strategic development
plan which has already made an impact on how it organises and gains
support. The building blocks are already in place and the Party has
developed well thought-out and creative policies on matters of concern to
the electorate. I now relish the opportunity of preparing the organisation
for the next General Election so that these policies can be progressed."

"I am looking forward to working closely with Party Leader, Trevor Sargent
TD, the Parliamentary Party and with councillors and members to put the
Green Party where it deserves to be - in Government and transforming this
    country's political dynamics."

Mr. Geoghegan has worked in the Community and Voluntary Sector for over 17
years, most recently as Director of Advocacy with The Wheel, a support and
representative body for the community and voluntary sector and previously
as Assistant Director with the National Youth Council of Ireland. He has
played a central role in the participation of the Community & Voluntary
Pillar in social partnership since 1996. He has also represented youth
interests on various bodies including the National Economic and Social
    Council.

Mr. Geoghegan lives in Glasnevin with his wife, Caroline and two young
sons, Donnacha and Conall. His interests include history, photography and
    hiking.
