Dr Kevin Farrell chosen as Green Party candidate for the Lucan Electoral Area

Party members may be interested to know that Dublin Mid West Green Party has selected Dr Kevin Farrell as its candidate for the Lucan Electoral Area.

Dr Farrell has many years' experience working as a community activist. In 1992, he co-founded the West Dublin Planning Awareness Group in response to development threats to the Liffey Valley at St. Edmundsbury/Woodville. He joined ERAZE's (Esker Residents Against Rezoning) campaign in South Lucan and Quarryvale (Liffey Valley shopping centre), and was subsequently elected to Lucan Community Council and Lucan Planning Council.

In 1998, he joined ALARM (All Lucan Against Rezoning Madness) and later LTQL (Lucan Together for Quality of Life). He represented LTQL at an Bord Pleanala's oral hearings on the Outer Ring Road, M50 Upgrade, N4 Upgrade and the Lucan Demesne Park & Ride proposals, where he made written submissions and cross-examined the Council's expert witnesses. He was an active member of the “Deliver-It Right” team that worked for improvements on the Adamstown SDZ project and has also worked on behalf of the community on the Clonburris SDZ project and as well as representing the Green Party in the fight against the proposed incinerator at Rathcoole.

Kevin has a Ph.D. in Computational Physics from Trinity College, and is a Lecturer in Computing at the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown. He is currently the branch secretary of the TUI (Teachers' Union of Ireland) at IT Blanchardstown. Recently, he has been engaged in a research project led by FEASTA, the Foundation for the Economics of Sustainability, on the environmental and sustainability assessment of road proposals.

Wow, BodyofEvidence makes a cranky post about the Green Party. That's a turn up for the books.
