Gormley: "politicians misled voters about the economy in run-up to election"

    Has Gormley just woken up?

Green Party leader John Gormley has said he believes many voters feel they were conned by politicians at the last general election.

Mr Gormley was speaking in Dublin today in response to the latest opinion poll showing a collapse in support for the Government, the Taoiseach and Fianna Fail.

He said he believed the figures may be explained by a feeling that politicians misled voters about the state of the economy in the run-up to last year's election.
    Well, D'uh!!!!

That probably isn't the case though. The govt made their election promises dependent on an optimistic economic outlook and many bought it. The election is forgotten. Voters are punishing FF for the bad economic conditions of today. So Gormley is either trying to deflect attention from current government mismanagement of which his party is a part; or otherwise, more seriously, distancing the Greens from FF which can only end in divorce.

Same here. I would normally give the Greens at least a preference but as long as they remain in govt with FF they won't get it.

    agreed.

    4%!!!!

With FF in meltdown and FG and Lab voters more likely to now give their transfers to Republican Sinn Fein than these frauds, it's going to be a meltdown next June for them and every one of their TD seats on current form would be under threat in a GE with four at least certain to go.

I would have thought the Greens of all people should shut their traps on voters being misled in run ups to an election.
Tens of thousands of votes and transfers they received away from their core vote last year were cast in the firm belief that a deal with FF was not under consideration in any circumstances.

They have it coming to them from these people and others big style.
There was always the suspicion they might be taking a deaadly gamble in the Mansion House last year, the economic collapse has merely turned that into an actual death warrant.
Suffer baby suffer, they deserve it all for their shameful lack of ethics and principles.

    Good question.
And if so, what is he doing propping up this government? (Other than the obvious, which is serving time until he qualifies for a ministerial pension.)
