And here was I thinking we were questioning Paul Gogarty's sanity? Good attempt at distraction though.

In all honesty, I am now more inclined to think it was just juvenile student union type babd manners, and not actually insanity on his part.

Dan Boyle sounded confused about the whole episode on Pat Kenny.

I have often thought about putting Brian Hayes in a microwave, doesnt mean I will !

    What a load of claptrap!

    Paul gogarty mad??

Paul is possibly one of the sanest politicians I know!
He is industrious and hard working, are we to label people mad just because they see things differently? Einstein would have been considered mad, crazy white hair sticking up everywhere, pure mad,,,but a genius!

Paul is a fast thinker and should not be underestimated, it is a new low in politics when a Politician tries to ridicule another by using a mental heath slur.
I would expect nothing more from a politician who quite frankly comes across as slimy to say the least!

The expression of pure delight on Brian Hayes face when he stood behind Pensioners on the podium at the recent dail protest said it all! He was lapping it up, using the fears of the elderly for his own ends, is that mad? I think it smacks of political opportunism at the expense of anyone or anything, if he was sincere he would not have had that "mad" smile on his face!

I think FG should take a leaf out of President elect Obama's book, he never once resorted to negative attacks on his opponents charachter (that must have been hard with Sarah Palin), FG have become the "tabloid" party of Irish politics, anything goes, who cares about the truth, sickening!:

Yes, apologies for trying to distract from a story about the behaviour of a public rep with discussion of the substantive issue of policy.
Worth breaking my "no sig" rule for:

In all the threads I've scanned through, I've seen none even a little embarassed to see Hayes, or Lord or the other FG sources she quotes, use mental health issues in this way. Is it coz these people less likely to vote?
I'm sure FG have knocked on a few doors and found it profitable to recommend paying Foreigners to Go Away. And James O'Reilly got away with the medical card debacle using just a few kleenexes (he did negotiate the original deal that charged us taxpayers four times the rate for richer over-seventies). So he's part of the reason we don't have a proper, more efficient, more equally balanced health service. Thank you, Mr O'Reilly.
The people with mental health problems I know (real people) are terrified by the social stigma surrounding it. But like I said, they probably usually don't vote.
FG are moving nicely to the right; Varadkar seems to practise McDowell in front of the mirror every night.
Full disclosure - I used to be a member of the Greens but I couldn't stand the PD. But I'll still vote green. Partly because I believe in responsible politics. Partly because the alternative cabinet makes me p*.. my pants.

    Self-righteous and over-sensitive, I can't think why you'd choose the Greens...

    Well said!

The far right has been reborn, cant figure out how Labour seem to think they are compatible coalition partners??
FF will go left or right whichever way keeps them in power, but FG seem to be lurching further and further to the right, sure aren't most the PD's finding a new home there!
The only compatible coalition partnership is GP/Lab, but of course there is no hope of that in the forseeable future!

getting back to Paul Gogarty, if you enter a room with 100 people, all are totally insane, but have a lot in common, then who is mad? you or them? after all sanity is the mental state of the Majority!

from my standpoint there is a certain madness in voting for civil war rivalries (FF/FG) as opposed to real political change, so is most the country barking mad???

Real political change is voting for a totalitarian dictatorship. That is mad.
And in all of the time I have voted FG it has never once been because Cumann na nGael voted to leave the United Kingdom.
Ireland interests are best secured within a more dynamic EU. Vote YES to Lisbon.

    Touché

I would personally rather be branded "mad" and interesting than sane and boring!
I think we all have our moments of madness, it's what keeps us sane!!
